The most important feature of CAT tools is the ability to save all previously translated portions of text in a translation database. Not only does it enable us to reuse the recurrent phrases, which appeared, for instance, in previous versions of a document, but also to maintain consistency when a single text is translated by many people.
These applications also support the use of terminology databases. There are many CAT tools available on the market. They are different with respect to the way they work, the types of file formats they support and the format of database they use, i.e. Translation Memory. SDL Trados is the most widely used CAT tool. Since Trados is most frequently chosen by the customers, it has also become a basic tool in our everyday work.
But it is not the only item in our toolbox. When dealing with the projects by our specialized staff we prefer using memoQ, which offers greater flexibility in handling multiple files, especially if they are translated into a number of languages.
At Centrum Lokalizacji CM we also utilize other, less popular CAT tools such as Across, Alchemy Catalyst, Passolo, and IBM OpenTM2. These tools are tailored to specific file formats and are ideal for specialized applications. We also use online CAT tools, like Smartling, XTM, GlobalSight, and Crossweb.
Many years of experience have proven that despite the existence of Translation Memory and terminology database exchange formats, CAT tools are not fully compatible with each other. This becomes an issue when a translation prepared using a different tool is to be used or when it is necessary to change the CAT tool for whatsoever reason. To avoid this we decided to develop our own solutions and dedicated tools which are extremely useful in coping with problems that limit the possibilities of applying the traditional CAT tools.
Centrum Lokalizacji CM is equipped with powerful software enabling an efficient conversion of files from PDF to an editable format without loss of page layout or graphics, and later conversion to the original PDF format. Translation of such files is done with standard CAT tools and does not differ from translation of other text documents.Read more

Terminology databases are becoming an increasingly important element of the localization process. The use of coherent terminology not only makes it easier to comprehend the translated text, but often it is the terminology itself that distinguishes a company, becoming a part of its image.Read more
Assuring a high level of quality in the translation process is not an easy task. If a translation is to be considered as having high quality, it not only needs to be correct language-wise, but it also must conform to the requirements of the customer, i.e. it must be coherent, use proper terminology and have a specific format. ISO 17100 standard proves the efficiency of procedures used in Centrum Lokalizacji CM.Read more
