C&M RECOMMENDS
Academic Initiatives

In order to increase the competence of future generations of translators, C&M cooperates with higher education institutions in the field of translation studies.

In cooperation with the Wroclaw High School of Applied Informatics, as a part of a project funded by the European Union from the European Social Fund under the Human Capital Operational Programme, the "Computational Methods in Technical Translations " course was developed and introduced into the curriculum of the Postgraduate College of Specialized Translations and Computer Tools.

The course consists of three subject areas:

arrow Computer Aided Translation Algorithms,
arrow Quality Assurance and Control,
arrow Localization Project Management.

It is the aim of the course to acquaint the students with algorithms and computer techniques employed by various CAT tools and other applications frequently used at different stages of localization projects. We would like the students to gain knowledge that would not only mean a sound understanding of theoretical and practical issues concerning linguistics, but would allow them to become successful localization project managers and freelance translators as well.

Rather than teaching the students how to use particular applications, we prefer to demonstrate more general underlying rules – an approach which will help them use any CAT tool effectively, whether as translators or project managers. For the time being it is the only college in Poland providing hands-on experience in computer aided translation which prepares its students to work in localization services industry.
