DTP

DTP traditionally describes the electronic process of preparing text for publishing, or in other words desktop publishing.
Since nowadays virtually everyone can easily access the Internet, technical documentation, manuals and even novels are no longer printed on paper. More and more documents are published in PDF format only.
For this reason PDF becomes a standard output or even input format for localization companies. Filing in documentation in PDF format, customers expect that the translation they receive will also be prepared in this format.

Such service involves not only the translation itself but also DTP, which in this case is saving the translation in a PDF file rather than adjusting it for printing.

Thus complete localization of documentation received in this format is a complex process because it involves converting the PDF file into an editable format, translating, then adjusting the text layout since the translation and original usually differ in length, which has an impact on the layout of pages, position of images, etc. Only then the translation can be saved in PDF format.

C&M Localization Center is equipped with powerful software enabling an efficient conversion of files from PDF to RTF format while preserving existing page and graphics layouts. Translation of such files is done with standard CAT tools and does not differ from translation of other text documents. The only difference between the original and translated PDF is language. In general, DTP is an indispensable part of nearly every localization process where PDF is the target format.
